I agree with Maxwell Fischbach’s Aug. 28 letter about the sentencing of the teens who beat Josh Lorbiecki to death (“Sentencing: Judge’s ruling was less than honorable”). The attack was premeditated and, although the intent perhaps was not to kill him, they did kill him. School kids will constantly be reminded of the vicious assault and unnecessary death that took place outside their classrooms. With an alarming disrespect for life at a high in our society, what message is Judge Richard Thorpe sending to other teens and thugs? Ignoring the prosecutor’s recommendation for a longer sentence seems almost arrogant; I wish we could understand his reasoning. My respects to all the parents living through this pain.
