The math regarding Tim Eyman’s latest initiatives is fairly simple: it will take a billion dollars or so from law enforcement, schools and social services. For those who don’t care about such things, it won’t cost a dime; not yet, anyway. The consequences will take awhile to catch up with our quality of life in Washington.
The math on Mr. Eyman’s settlement with the state is a little more complicated. He took $233,000 in campaign funds, paid $50,000 in fines and presumably walked away with $183,000. Oh, he was contrite. But contrition – plus $183,000 – would soothe anyone’s soul.
Now he wants to replace the $50,000 with donations from the public, which, in his wisdom, he has pronounced to be non-reportable income. That, in addition to the salary he may or may not be taking from contributors. He sees no need to tell us. How dare we ask?
Alas, the emperor still has his clothes.
