Settlement to Bargreens is theft by the privileged

How disappointing to read the front page story in Sunday’s Herald (“Everett coffee heirs get $590K over crane color, ending saga,” The Herald, Dec. 6).

We learned that once again the wealthy and privileged have used their money and power to pick the pockets of their working neighbors. It is disgusting that this family was able to hold the Port of Everett hostage and demand ransom to allow the Port to do its job.

These people, born into wealth created by their forebears, have used it to sue the Port over the color of the Port cranes that they can see from their homes. The Port was faced with paying the ransom or delaying projects while they were held up in court. There is no excuse for the unbridled greed which drove the Bargreens to use the courts to extort $590,000 of taxpayer funds to assuage their offended sensibilities. The cranes are greenish blue instead of bluish green? Come on.

There is little that we can do at this point, but thank you, Herald, for making us all aware of this theft by the privileged.
