Regarding the Tuesday letter, “Service attendance was truly shameful”:
There has always been a misunderstanding among some that Americans must do certain things in certain ways or they are not patriotic. In America we have the freedom to show up for a parade or not. In fact, that is what freedom is, the right to exercise your own free choice.
Being at a parade doesn’t mean you are more patriotic or care more about our veterans. The shame is on those who have wasted American and Iraqis lives in an evil war that should never have been started by America. The shame is on those who lied and still lie about WMD and Iraq being a part of the 9/11 attack. If you honor our servicemen and servicewomen, bring them home from Iraq. If you honor our veterans call Bush and demand he fund the care for our wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans when they come home. That will do a lot more to support veterans than attending a parade.
