We would like to bring up a few points about the decisions Island County voters will make Nov. 2 in the commissioner race between Mike Shelton and Dean Enell.
Mike Shelton has an excellent record of doing what is right for the citizens, taxpayers and residents of Island County as our commissioner for the past 12 years.
Mike’s opponent, Dean Enell, has a record that should be of concern to Island County voters. As a former board member of Whidbey Environmental Action Network (WEAN), Dean Enell would not bring the balanced approach he is claiming.
WEAN has opposed rezones and permits involving Nichols Brothers Boat Building in Freeland and taken numerous actions that have cost the taxpayers of Island County hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend. WEAN supported closing Naval Air Station Whidbey. WEAN also took action that placed restrictions and made it difficult for farmers to stay on their land and continue to farm.
Nichols Brothers presently employs more than 300 people. Dean Enell talks about helping business in Island County, with his ties to WEAN this would not be possible.
Mike Shelton has helped keep well-paying jobs such as Nichols Brothers right here in Island County, helping families live and work in our community.
Mike has an excellent record of helping senior citizens in Island County. Even in tough budget times, Mike has delivered by not cutting programs that are vital to our seniors and Island County residents. Mike makes his decisions based on what is right for the people of Island County, not some special interest group.
Let’s not gamble with the future of Island County. Mike Shelton has the experience, integrity, work ethic and common sense to lead Island County. Join us in voting for Mike Shelton Nov. 2.
