Sheriff Adam Fortney apparently forgot his role in our law enforcement system. His job is to enforce the laws, not interpret them.
Congratulations on the courage of Prosecuting Attorney Adam Cornell for declining to pay the costs of defending against the recall. To have done otherwise would have been to reward Sheriff Fortney’s lawlessness.
I was particularly appalled by the sheriff’s actions because as he encouraged reckless civil disobedience and the spread of disease. My dear brother Ralph waited, and waited, and waited for a chance for his “elective” open heart surgery. After three postponements, his hospital finally found room, and Ralph had his life-saving surgery. But if our sheriff’s incitement to throw caution to the wind had held sway with many more citizens, Ralph would still be waiting, if he were still alive.
Let’s recall our reckless sheriff.
