I have lived in the Edmonds/Lynnwood community for many years and have experienced the change and growth of the Edmonds School District first-hand. I attended grades K-12 here and taught in District 15 for 35 years. In that time, I have observed and experienced a variety of school boards: some excellent, some not.
Alan Weiss (a transplant from Dade County, Fla.) is running for a position on the school board this year. He was my principal for the last 11 years that I taught and substituted at Edmonds-Woodway High School (my alma mater).
Because I am keenly interested in the welfare of the district and its students, I am unable to support him in his bid to serve on the Edmonds School Board. In my years in the school district I’ve experienced the damage of a non-cohesive school board. I don’t want to see it again.
My support will be given to the incumbent, Pat Shields, who has demonstrated excellent teamwork and collegiality. While on the board, Mr. Shields has worked collaboratively with all of the groups in the Edmonds School District. He is widely respected and has the support of the Edmonds Education Association. I respect his thoughtful approach to the complex education issues that our school board is required to address. Please join me in supporting Pat Shields for the Edmonds School Board.
