I would like to express a different point of view regarding the abuse and/or ignorance of the handling, displaying and disposal of the American flag. Since my first exposure and education on our national emblem 60-plus years ago I have spent those years proudly flying our flag around the world from my residence, be it a nice new building or a hole in the ground in Vietnam.
Our Flag is personal private property. It belongs to the individual who pays for it, be they an individual or corporation.
Burning the American flag is considered the respectful manner in which the American Flag should be destroyed. The protesters both here and around the world, in their ignorance, do not realize that they are acting in our best interest by showing the world what childish artists they are in their painting of our flag and the protesters who are demonstrating their stupidity by buying a flag to burn, which is benefiting our economy and creating jobs, be they here or abroad.
However, if those morons out there remove an American flag from private or government property they can be charged with a crime ranging from petty theft to felony burglary, depending on where and how they obtain the flag. Add to that, anyone who is with them during the removal of the flag can be charged with abetting the crime.
There are 35 houses in my tract and all but five flew an American flag after 9/11 and today there are three flags. If you can’t do anything more than a 25 cent flag from the drug store, at least show some pride on Flag Day (June 14) and show your neighbors that you are a proud American.
