Skilled responders need our support

On the evening of June 5 my husband suffered a massive, life-threatening heart attack. I write for two reasons:

First, I wish to thank the paramedics of Snohomish Fire and Rescue District 4 for their quick response. Captain Bruce Keaton, Ken Hopkins, and the other paramedics whose names I am sorry I do not know, used their skills and training to save my husband’s life. I can say without a doubt that if the paramedics had not been able to respond to our call for help my husband would not be with me today. We are both very grateful that we have such talented and skilled paramedics in District 4.

This brings me to my second reason for writing. On Aug. 6, by mail-in ballot only, Fire District 4 is asking its voters for a new 6-year levy at 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, representing an increase of 15 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. If this levy does not pass, those of us in District 4 will lose many valuable and life-saving services that our paramedics provide. None of us knows when we will need to call 911 for paramedic assistance, but when we do, our need is immediate. In our case, my husband had no symptoms that a heart attack was imminent. I encourage each of you to take this into consideration and when it is time to cast your vote, vote yes for the EMS levy. I know we will.
