The Snohomish County Council called an “emergency” meeting to decide on whether we should spend $200,000 to study whether raising Harvey Airfield up 12 feet with fill and closing off the slough under Highway 9 will displace floodwaters or not. I’ll save us all lots of money — it will.
The water will back up in the direction of downtown Snohomish and settle over the top of Highway 9. Anyone who has seen the aerial photographs of last year’s election day flood can predict this with confidence.
The only “emergency” here is that the pro-airfield expansion council members are being replaced by new members who have stated that they oppose the waste of money. So much for the much-hyped “fiscal conservatives.” I hope that Aaron Reardon has veto power over this issue and that he’ll use it to stop the waste.
If I were the state attorney general, I’d be very suspicious. I wish I could get a political body to call an “emergency” meeting to help me expand my business. I wonder how much that costs. Someone, somewhere knows.
