My mother, Janet Stites, gave her comments in Monday’s Herald article, “Budget knife hits parks.” I would like to add my own words.
My mother hasn’t been camping anywhere else but Squire Creek since she’s been camping there, and that must account for something. Also, I have a 5-year-old son whom we are raising to love the outdoors, and his life wouldn’t be the same if he couldn’t camp. I grew up camping here above Granite Falls with my family. The campgrounds here used to be decent. Now, when we go just to visit the campgrounds, we don’t even have to spend the night. We can see that they just aren’t the same as Squire Creek.
It’s also nice knowing your son has a safe place to play in a campground without drinking and partying.
Squire Creek campground is a nice, quiet, serene place where my family and I can go to get away from the hustle and bustle of life during the summer, and we would really miss Joe Miller if he were to leave. It just wouldn’t be the same.
I think the budget cuts are targeting the wrong area.
