HR5970, the estate tax and extension the tax relief act, should be passed.
The estate or death tax affected our family farm. It is a cattle ranch that appraised for a few million dollars by the IRS, but it has been in the family since the late 1800s. The tax was approximately $1 million on a farm where the yearly income does not support paying the regular bills and the tax bill that was levied several years ago.
Restaurants, farms and small businesses are the ones who will pay this tax by the grieving children selling the family business and paying money already taxed instead of letting them keep their business and pay income tax.
