I am writing this letter in regard to my recent experience with the state Department of Social and Health Services. Never before have I had any reason to use its services. However, recent events in our family’s lives have moved us to do so.
We have acquired a new family member – a child who ended up needing a temporary home. We were able to get some monetary assistance while the child is under our roof. Thank God for that and for the folks at the Smokey Point DSHS office.
Throughout my life, I have heard horror stories about DSHS. I’m sure you have all heard same. Maybe you’ve even experienced it yourself. Let me clarify for the general public my personal experience with DSHS. There was not the red tape of the bureaucracy that I had heard of all my life, nor did I experience any rudeness from the individuals working there. Quite the contrary.
The folks at the Smokey Point DSHS office are not only kind, compassionate and understanding, but make clear what you need to do in order to get your claim expedited. Kudos to them! There were not reams of paperwork to fill out, there was not more than one appointment to get my claim started, and the time I personally spent in the office doing paperwork or attending my appointment was minimal.
I just thought the public should know that not everyone has nightmare stories about the Department of Social and Health Services.
