What an interesting reflection of our national picture in our hometown race for mayor. You can see that the alt-right base is activated and they use their voice, they use their vote.
When the subject of Karen Guzak comes up, I am greeted with, “Oh, we love her.” Everything I see in Karen’s actions in the way of raising her hand to participate, being there when civic leaders accept their roles, and simply bringing celebration to the historical community of Snohomish. She has been someone who has shown to listen, someone who is honest and transparent and shown that strong leadership can be kind.
All of us may use Facebook to “stalk” a person’s character. Standing in contrast to Karen, we can see John Kartak for ourselves because frankly there is no track record of public service. What I saw of Mr. Kartak were multiple posts where he has found garbage or debris. With an attitude of disdain, looking for places to find fault and wondering who should be responsible, we start to get a sense of his priorities.
We have seen what can happen when a base activates and the rest of us remain complacent and do nothing. It is time the progressive view activates; it is time we look to encourage community, and no vote should go uncast.
Let’s use our voice. Let’s celebrate the Snohomish community we love and together look for ways to make our town cool.
