Proposition 1 is an advisory vote ballot measure to be voted on by citizens living within Snohomish city limits, addressing whether marijuana businesses should be allowed to locate here.
The “yes” group has decided to run a misleading campaign, trying to make voters think that there is currently a ban on “legal and medical cannabis” in town. There is no such ban. The current ban covers marijuana businesses which are currently prohibited. It’s unclear whether that group of people is unable to comprehend the issue or if they just hope to “trick” voters into thinking that if they vote “no” people won’t be able to get their marijuana.
Shops are just outside town, as near as Bickford Avenue. No adult’s right to purchase/consume marijuana is being infringed upon by not having shops in city limits.
A “no” vote will help your community by ensuring that a marijuana business won’t locate alongside someone’s home or a currently established business that doesn’t want marijuana next door. The proposed shop location is 202 Avenue D. It’ll be the first business someone sees when exiting Highway 9. Is this the impression we hope to give?
Please note that this is not just inviting in a relatively new, controversial business, but an entire culture. Have you walked downtown Seattle lately? Smokers there are clearly not buying their weed and waiting until they get home to smoke it. You can smell it on almost every block. While standing on street corners holding signs encouraging “no” votes with high school government students (they earn class credit) we have had various obscenities screamed at us, been flipped off, and videotaped so we can be mocked on social media. These obnoxious people were not all kids. They were primarily adults, some with children in their own cars, setting fine examples of how to treat others.
Please give sincere thought as to how this will impact our community as a whole. Vote “no.”
