Congratulations! The Herald’s June 27 editorial, “BPA should listen to PUD, stop rate hikes,” is right on track. Now let’s get the train out of the station. Certainly PUD rates are regional news. PUD rates affect each and every household and business in the region.
Why won’t FERC publicly regulate the wholesale energy speculations that have occurred and are clearly penalizing the entire Northwest? What authority created and empowered FERC and what public need was to be fulfilled? What is FERC’s jurisdiction and what penalty leverage does it have as decision enforcement? Why can FERC officials take part in “closed-door” discussions with parties involved in a lawsuit that FERC is judging? Why does BPA pay private energy companies and others for energy not delivered instead of delivering the energy and collecting income?
There are so many questions that beg to be asked and answers that need to be examined. I look forward to continued Herald coverage of this regional, non-partisan subject. Go win a Pulitzer!
