What possible charges could be leveled at a U.S. Marine for his actions against an enemy? His dispatching an enemy insurgent could have saved other Marines from being wounded or killed. After seeing the booby-trapped bodies of other insurgents killing his fellow Marines, he acted instinctively. In the heat of battle savage things take place in an instant. It is easy for Monday morning quarterbacks to critique life-threatening circumstances. This particular Marine had already been wounded. He had also witnessed his fellow Marines being threatened by fanatical insurgents. Anyone in his position engaged in a fierce firefight would have reacted in the same manner.
This Marine does not deserve the negative press thrust upon him by certain media outlets. Those who have never tasted the chaos of combat should remain silent, or at least be mindful of those people who put their lives on the line on behalf of others.
