Nice work if you can get it: An unnamed White House source has confirmed Internet rumors that Gov. Chris Gregoire, D-Short List, is among potential candidates to replace Elena Kagan as the U.S. solicitor general, following her nomination to the Supreme Court.
Gregoire said she was flattered by the attention but said she intends to serve out the rest of her term as governor. After that, however, she is interested in finding a better-paying gig, like school superintendent for a small town.
Grab a pot, Solvig: A 73-year-old Swedish man walking along the shoreline of Borvallstrand discovered a rare 12-foot-long giant oarfish, last seen 130 years ago.
Larger giant oarfish have washed ashore at Borvallstrand in the past, but before biologists could investigate, the townswomen have always grabbed the fish, thrown it in a pot of lye and made lutefisk.
Take a hike: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, R-Evita, spent last weekend in Florida with his Argentine lover, whom he secretly flew out of the country to see last summer, a tryst that ended his marriage if not his political career.
We’ll have to check an atlas, but we weren’t aware that the Appalachian Trial extended all the way to Florida.
