Solla busy already tackling big issues

I was surprised to read The Herald’s endorsement of Barbara Tolbert over Scott Solla for Arlington City Council Position 3. (Sept. 18 editorial, “Challengers offer most for Arlington’s future.”)

While it’s true that Tolbert “emphasizes the importance” of supporting Arlington’s transportation, public safety and emergency services, Scott Solla is already actively and effectively tackling these issues. The current City Council, including Solla, is working hard to foster the city’s growth and provide resources for the community’s support services.

Solla currently chairs the public works committee and serves on the public safety and finance/government operations committee. He also served on the community development committee and throughout his tenure has been heralded by fellow committee members and residents alike as a thoughtful, honest and fair decision maker who always considers the interests of Arlington’s citizens.

It seems you underestimate the learning curve and risk of replacing Solla with a challenger. However, Arlington agrees with your assessment on this point: The current council is doing a great job! Scott Solla should be rewarded with re-election on Nov. 6.
