The words ecology and environment should never be linked with terrorism. Terrorism is a scary word which threatens the world. A better description for the recent fires in Snohomish would have been radical arsonist. Anyone involved in protecting our ecology and environment would never set a fire, releasing toxic fumes and possibly further devastating the surrounding environment.
It is my opinion that this person has a problem with the county’s method of plopping urban developments into a rural character. If anything, the problem is with the Snohomish County Planning Department. This is where the discontentment lies. The county has been continually sanctioned by the Growth Management Hearings Board for its failure to adhere to the Growth Management Act. The GMA and the county have rules and regulations protecting rural property owners from urban growth. Preserving the value, character and integrity of surrounding areas with buffers is not upheld by the county planning department. Therefore, I understand the frustrations that this person feels about the destruction of trees and wildlife habitat.
Early on, this was my platform until I realized the county couldn’t care less. In no way do I condone this act of arson. Communication must be addressed with the county about how citizens would be better served by placing urban developments within urban zoning.
There are only a handful of citizens who attend county meetings to speak. Please attend the meetings about code changes, design standards and decision criteria. This is the only way we have to make a positive change. If you are not happy with the county council’s decisions, vote them out make your voice heard.
