Have the people who are against the downtown site taken a look at the buildings that will be torn down? With the exception of two or three sites, I think a large majority would agree that this area is a total eyesore and would not enhance a downtown revival, if left as is.
Isn’t it wonderful that some of the owners of these properties all of a sudden see great value in their sites, but not enough value as to update their buildings and spend their money to attract new business to the area? Do you think they may be shaking down the city for more money for their wonderful, unsightly buildings? No arena could look so bad as this area now looks.
I believe this is a good gamble on the part of our leaders to create something to bring people downtown and enhance the business and livability of the area. It’s nice to see some leaders with guts.
Please, if you’re opposed to the arena, go downtown and walk the area that a few are talking you into saving.
We must take some action to save our downtown. It has been put off much too long. Just think of the many conventions and local uses of this arena to bring people back downtown.
