I have been a resident of Everett for 10 years; I can say I have been happy here. Unfortunately, in the last year or so, I have noticed a progressive deterioration of public manners on the streets and everywhere. A rudeness and disrespect that comes at you from others for no reason.
On one occasion, I was getting out of the car near the mailbox and was nearly hit by a speeding car. On another occasion, I was walking along the street and was cussed out by people who were perfect strangers. The latest incident was the theft of our house number post at the top of our driveway — which is absolutely essential for emergency vehicles to find us quickly.
What has happened to this community’s sense of decency and respect for others? We may be concerned about the economy right now but we shouldn’t forget about being good, responsible people and good citizens.
