Regarding the Sunday article, “On urban trails, trouble strikes quickly“:
I walk my 90-pound white lab up and down the hill several days a week where Wendell Hultman had his tragic accident. Therefore, I know the dangers on the hill. Obviously I don’t know the speed of the bikers in this case, but I’ve seen bikers that must be going 25-30 mph by the time they get to the bottom of the hill. Skateboarders can get going fast, too.
Trimming the bushes, which are so close together they could almost be a hedge, has greatly improved the visibility and safety.
Bikers need to exercise more caution, especially with walkers on the hill, and walkers need to be more cognizant of bikers on the hill. I often walk my dog off the blacktop in the grass as we go down the hill and next to the hedge as we go up. Let’s all cooperate and keep the hill safe from now on.
