On the weekend after the attack in New York, my wife bought two American flags. We were moved by all the news clips and constant coverage and felt it was a duty of every American to support each other by flying the flag. I put one on the garage wall outside, and one on a fence post at the end of our driveway. Some time between 3 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 16, Sunday, someone burned the flag on the end of the driveway!
After talking to the neighbors on both sides, I discovered that three teen-age boys were seen walking up and down the road at that time, and they recognized at least one of the boys. I know that the kids had to be aware of the attack and why the flag was there, so I wonder what kind of kid would be so clueless as to burn an American flag? It makes me sick when I think of all the young guys that died on beaches in World War II, Korea and Vietnam doing what they had to do, and some twerp with a match can burn the flag and walk away.
I want all the parents and kids in the Lakewood School District to be aware that they have a kid with a sick mind in our community, and I hope he is proud of himself.
