It was disturbing to read Jerry Cornfield’s July 3 column (“Demos looking for some bounce”) because it was obviously slanted to hurt a particular candidate. Instead here are a few facts.
Fact: Jeff Sax unseated Dave Somers four years ago promising he would provide the county with 200-plus deputies and fix the roads, all without raising taxes. Instead, the sheriff complains he needs more deputies. Sax advocates planning for the highest growth plan even though he knows it will further clog our roads.
Fact: Steve Hobbs and Somers each made a promise to the Snohomish County Democrats that if either lost that endorsement, the loser would step down and support the other one to unseat Sax. Hobbs lost the endorsement but did not step down. He continues to campaign, endorsed by County Executive Aaron Reardon and Snohomish Mayor Liz Loomis.
Fact: The Master Builders Association say Somers can’t win. Reardon and Loomis are both supported by the MBA in their campaigns. Why? Perhaps Somers will work for the best interest of all people as he did before, not just those Reardon and Loomis represent.
Growth impacts are the No. 1 issue on people’s minds. Somers knows that and will work for everyone. He can win and he should!
