I would like to know who was the brainchild behind the U.S. 2 disaster. Did they actually study the traffic flow before installing the stoplight in Sultan? Did they realize the consequences of halting traffic every two minutes on a weekend? What were they thinking exactly?
Back in the old days (by that I mean circa 1990s) it took roughly 30-40 minutes to get to the Sultan/Gold Bar area. And then came that traffic light! On a recent Saturday, it took almost 45 minutes to travel from mile marker 19 to mile marker 21. Now I know this to be very accurate because I had a 4-year-old in the back seat who had to go “potty.”
I can recognize that growth and development has a lot to do with the traffic and I am even more willing to accept that the stop light was put in place to keep drivers from speeding through those towns at mach speed, which I have witnessed on numerous occasions. But there has to be a better way. You cannot have cars parked from Monroe to Sultan every weekend. Add a lane! Add two! I don’t care what it is, but do something! At the very least, throw in a port-a-potty every couple of miles.
Oh, and those signs they have posted on the side of the road that read “Stuck in traffic? Call your legislator” and then proceeded to give a number. We called. No answer. But we will keep calling.
