The “broadcast press” is predicting wins for the GOP this fall. They say that people are unhappy with the incumbents. They say the public is worried about the deficits (exacerbated by a tax cut for the rich and an unnecessary war).
Let us think about who the corporate media are. They are corporate agents whose ownership benefited from deregulation. They are very wealthy people who benefited from the tax cuts for the wealthy. They are the ones who encouraged “free trade,” sending our middle-class jobs overseas. They are the Republican sound machine.
What am I predicting for the fall? I am predicting that the Democrats will finally decide that bipartisanship with the party of “NO” is not an option. I am predicting the electorate will realize that President Obama has worked on and passed just what he campaigned on. I am hoping he will be drawing the troop level down in Iraq, a place we should never have been. I am hoping that we can show the public that the Republican Party is only in favor of big business and not the common man, and that passing health-care reform and financial reform were for us and not the moneyed elite.
So if you are a very wealthy, selfish person, not concerned for your neighbors, go for the right wing. If you earn less than $250,000, be happy with the tax cut you got from this administration. Be happy you can buy health insurance without worrying about pre-existing conditions. Be glad that there will be a consumer protection agency looking at the big banks with an eye to your safety and interests. Be happy that the Obama administration has gotten BP to pay $20 billion up front to those affected by the consequences of oil industry deregulation. I am happy about those things.
