Get out your wallets. Peter Rogoff, the Sound Transit director has a plan to squeeze even more money out of taxpayers and commuters.
First, transit stations don’t provide nearly enough parking spaces, especially in Snohomish County. Because these lots fill up early frustrated riders have to scramble to find a place for their cars in order to ride the bus. Now Rogoff wants to charge a fee for guaranteed parking. Keeping the lots undersized will help make this happen and enable him to charge higher rates.
Second, it keeps the ridership count down to affect light rail priorities. The Ballard and Bellevue lines have leapfrogged over the north end in the building schedule. Great idea, Peter. I use public transportation whenever I can but voted against ST3 because of this parking problem. Mid-day buses run almost empty because there is no place to park.
What to do? Remove Rogoff, who makes over $320,000 a year but needs a paid personal coach to help him tone down his toxic leadership style; the one who slipped in the car appraisal scam.Select a Sound Transit board from construction and trades people who have experience with funding and building and can stand up to someone like Rogoff.
Add more parking! There are 1,067 spaces in Everett plus bus lines that feed into it. There are only 399 spaces at the south Everett station, but there is room to the north for more parking. You can also add parking near the rest stop across I-5 and connect with an overhead walkway like the bike bridge near 128th. We need to get our act together on this, and soon.
