Regarding the Wednesday letter, “Revenue good, so is consideration”:
I find it hard to believe that all cyclists on the Centennial Trail never pay mind to the posted speed limit and never call out their intentions when getting ready to pass slower cyclists, walkers, joggers or roller bladers. I truly grow weary of cyclists being painted with the same negative brush.
There are bad apples in every bunch — such as the parents who push their children in strollers the approximate size of my first car down the exact center of the trail and refuse to move when asked, the walkers who walk in groups that encompass the entire width of the trail, the roller bladers who wear sound-dampening earbuds who cannot hear a cyclist call out their intentions to pass, the families who let their children exhibit dangerous and out-of-control behavior on their bikes, scooters and roller blades.
Almost every time I’ve walked or ridden the trail, I’ve seen some type of example of rude or dangerous behavior. The only group I’ve witnessed that are always courteous are the folks who walk their dogs — they control their animals and do their best to share the trail equitably.
Discourteous trail behavior is not limited to cyclists — we all can learn to share the Centennial Trail just a little bit better.
