Seems as if Congress went on vacation without getting much done. (Dana Milbank column, “Where wisdom is in short supply.”) Despite the hard work and good ideas of Reps. Larsen and DelBene, the House chose to do very little in the last opportunity before a five-week recess. But the people can speak up and make a difference.
Congress can be proactive and pass legislation that makes a difference, like extending the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Passing universal pre-kindergarten education into law will give all children a fair start in school. Telling our legislators about these priorities will help bring them into reality. Write, call, meet with, or otherwise contact our representatives to help them know what is important. This is election time, so vote now and in the fall, and use your voice to make a difference.
