I read recent letters that complained about people driving too fast on the freeway and on the Bothell-Everett highway and had to just shake my head in disgust. Too fast? Really?
I don’t think the letter writers realize that arterial roads and freeways are actually supposed to move traffic; with the emphasis on MOVE. With more people moving into the area we need to find ways to increase the speed of traffic, not slow it down. When you are in the back of a long checkout line at a store do you want the clerk to go slower? No. You want them to speed up and go as fast as possible. Same thing with traffic.
The fact that it is so easy to drive on the arterials and freeways at speeds considerably faster than the posted speed limits only proves that the speed limits are set artificially low. We are told it’s for our “safety,” but in reality it’s so “Revenue Enhancement Officers” can extort money from capable and efficient drivers.
My car is my freedom, and I invoke my right and freedom to protest and be civilly disobedient by exceeding the posted speed limits on arterials and freeways as much as possible. If you don’t like it, fine; stay in the right lane and out of the way. You’re not a cop so get over it. If you are a cop; earn your pay by catching real criminals; not pestering efficient drivers.
Move it out, or move it over.
Have a good day.
