I have a simple answer to the state’s budget crunch. Simply calculate the budget deficit, then spread the shortage equally between all the departments and programs. If it is 10 percent, 20 percent or 50 percent, reduce each budget by that amount. Period!
Do not listen to any special interest group. Spread the pain equally. This will appeal to the taxpayers’ sense of fairness and will eliminate the lobbyist groups and the politicking. And, it will allow the Legislature to get its job done in 30 days, and go home.
It is so simple and so fair that I’m sure it will be beyond the understanding of the Legislature.
