Staff’s action is his responsibility

As one of The Daily Herald’s “500 subscribers,” I applaud the efforts of investigative reporters Scott North and Noah Haglund to expose the wrongdoings in the county executive’s office. It is no surprise to me that Mr. Reardon has failed to personally respond to inquiries made by The Herald, as in the past it has been his practice until the evidence becomes so overwhelming, that he is forced to admit to the truth.

Through his staff he has denied any knowledge of wrongdoings by Kevin Hulten and Jon Redicil, which I find very hard to believe. As county executive, Mr. Reardon is responsible for the actions of his staff and is obligated to take corrective action when any sort of illegal, unethical or “unauthorized” actions are discovered and/or exposed (as per Harry Truman — “The buck stops here.”)

But if the past is any indication of what will happen (and is happening now), the executive and his staff will “stonewall” to the bitter end. Mr. Reardon will continue to deny any knowledge or responsibility. Eventually when the evidence becomes so overwhelming, Mr. Hulten and/or Mr. Redicil will be forced to resign or more likely “fall on their swords” to try save Mr. Readon from further political embarrassment, and in the process, add “loyalty” to their résumés for any future political/public positions that they may aspire to.

Once again, “Bravo!” to Mr. North and Mr. Haglund.
