I wonder how much longer we’ll be treated to the endless political theater currently going on in Washington, D.C. It doesn’t look to me like anything will be done about the deficit any time soon. The Republicans will not ever increase the money coming in and the Democrats don’t want to give up their advantage with Medicare and Social Security.
I can remember the last time we had a Republican House and a Democratic president and when they weren’t trying to hurt each other politically they actually did some good things, like balancing the budget.
I can also remember that when Clinton was president, some economists were worried the debt was going to be paid off too soon. We did have a bit higher taxes then but millions of Americans, including me, never had it so good. I read one poll that asked people how they liked the current government and the largest percentage answered that this government is the worst ever. It’s hard to argue with that!
