Regarding the letter, “’Pro-life’ protects most vulnerable”: Another ignorant, half-witted man made an anti-choice, anti-female, anti-contraception rant on Sunday. This fellow has never investigated behind the scenes in delivery rooms as he had the foolishness to ask, “When does human life begin? without first asking, “What is human life?”
Clearly, he’s never thought deeply about questions of mind-body-soul, but only had knee-jerk reactions and opinions based on religious belief or other superficial information. When, for example, does life begin for an anencephalic baby, that is a baby born with a functioning body but “no brain”? (Yes, it happens often enough that there is a name for the condition. But ignorant people have never been involved enough to know about these and other kinds of babies born without the ability to think, breathe, eat or drink.)
Sunday’s prolific letter writer often rails against the taxes and social welfare programs required to care for all our unwanted, abused, abandoned and physically or mentally disabled babies. He doesn’t want to pay for the multi-million dollar medical procedures to keep the preemies, paraplegics, comatose, and disease-ridden alive. And he is especially against paying for such help to humans who are citizens of other countries.
His stated position is hypocritical or illogical or poorly informed. But it’s certainly in keeping with today’s holier-than-thou, Republican conservatives and Tea Partyers who are legislating women into submission and repression.
