The morning traffic again backs up through the city of Snohomish as people commute south on Highway 9. From the April 30 Herald article on Sound Transit’s plan to spend $16 million to study use of the nearby rail corridor, it sounds like it will be another few years before anything is started.
We can study the usefulness of the route by placing a few rail-buses on commute loops. For example, a run from Snohomish to Kirkland/Bellevue in the morning with the buses returning north on I-405 and Highway 9 to make another loop. In the afternoon they would use the rail north and the highways south. A similar route could be used between Renton and Bellevue. (A rail-bus is a city bus with the retractable train wheels used by rail maintenance trucks.)
If people use the buses, we confirm the routes are useful for less than the $16 million and we get to keep using the buses we convert.
