State can’t provide close site for care

Our mom lives in Mount Vernon. She is 74 years old and our dad is 76. The problem? Dad is a World War II veteran, on Medicaid and Medicare. He also has Alzheimer’s.

The only place that this state could place Dad in his present condition is in south Tacoma. That is over 90 miles one way for Mom to drive to see her husband of over 55 years. We can save a tree and save a fish, but we cannot take care of Washington’s biggest asset, its people.

We find this unspeakable. As if our roads aren’t bad enough, now we put an elderly driver on them driving through three busy areas just to see her husband. We just thought readers would like to know how great it is to get old in the great Northwest.
