I was shocked, shocked, I say, to hear on the news and read in The Herald the cries of major corporations and tech companies in Washington state. They claim President Trump’s immigration order has, or will cause them, “irreparable harm.” His order to block immigration for 90 days may bring their near collapse. They imply there are thousands of well-educated, skilled, creative and English-speaking workers kept from assuming their rightful places in American business. These workers who are prepared to serve in high tech are from just seven nations. Given the fact that most of these states have had constant war for five to 30 years, which nearly totally destroyed infrastructures and educational systems, I understand the corporate angst. While most people struggled to survive, these few managed to become indispensable to America.
Microsoft and others may not survive a 90-day delay in getting these people into the U.S. Somalia and Yemen are leaders in high-tech education and creativity. Really? Are Amazon, Uber and Starbucks so deeply dependent upon immigrants that they cannot find U.S. citizens who can supply their needs? The articles, are mostly about numbers of Indians, Pakistanis and Iranians who have come to America and are in fact leaders of innovation, creativity and tech. No restrictions have been proposed upon India or Pakistan, and if our nation cannot survive without infusions from Iran, we do not deserve to survive. Give me a break!
