Perhaps no state agency has been as mismanaged as Employment Security. Although I didn’t have unemployment claim in this past year I know of many of those who did waited weeks and sometimes months to get their rightful check while the hundreds of million dollars in bogus funds were sent to Nigeria.
Now we find that the state official who led this fiasco is going to work for the Biden Administration. I am disappointed. From President Biden’s Cabinet picks I thought those doing the background checks were excellent. Perhaps they turned lower positions over to those not as efficient in the vetting.
It has been publicly reported that state Sen. Reuven Carlyle of Seattle stated that Suzan LeVine “took over an agency that was in the ditch.” But as a former superb President, Harry Truman” said, “the buck stops here.” If the agency was “in the ditch” shouldn’t Gov. Jay Inslee been working to get the department “out of the ditch” as he had six years to do so before LeVine became the commissioner of the department?
And how did the department get “in the ditch.” The last time a Republican was governor was Dec. 31, 1985. Will we ever hold anyone accountable for fiascos such as this?
