Regarding the June 20 Herald article, “State Dems may abandon caucus chaos,” a very important point was left unstated. After the extremely dysfunctional 2016 Washington state Democratic caucuses crowned Bernie Sanders the “winner,” a non-binding “beauty contest” primary was held in the state, with Hilary Clinton winning by a wide margin with a much larger turnout.
Primary elections are far more representative of voters, where caucuses tend to attract far fewer voters and disenfranchise may groups of citizens.
If the state Democrats really care about a fair representation of the voters will, they will abandon the archaic caucus system and embrace an early state primary.
