I am writing in regard to the cost of attending college, and why I believe the state should provide more financial aid opportunities to students. As a current student of Skagit Valley College, I am consistently struggling to pay my tuition.
Finding a job is hard because I need one with enough hours to pay for college, but not so many that I don’t have time for homework and classes. I also hear from my fellow students that they are struggling similarly; many of them are considering giving up on their education just because it’s become too unaffordable to them.
This isn’t just bad for us students, it’s bad for our whole society. We’re losing out on a massive educated workforce just because we don’t provide enough financial support for low or middle class students. To continue the technological advancement of our country, our government should provide more financial aid to students. And if we want Washington to continue to be one of the highest rated states in the country, we should ensure our state government is making college as financially accessible as possible, for all future workers and entrepreneurs from our great state.
