Well, here we go again. This Timothy McVeigh execution is going to be like the Charles Campbell case all over again. How in the world did this man get a stay of execution when he has admitted that he committed this horrible crime? Did those poor people in the Federal Building get a stay of execution?
Now all this red tape about the FBI withholding thousands of documents. Then the president himself gets on the TV and says that in matters dealing with execution, they have to be dealt with fairly and correctly. Please! There was nothing fair or correct about the killing of those people that day. Why, if someone is not only convicted by a jury but has confessed to the crime, does this kind of thing happen? It seemed that there was finally going to be some closure to this nightmare. Now, the government steps in and prolongs the agony.
My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the bombing. They too are victims, as is this entire nation. Next to the assassination of President Kennedy, this is the blackest day in my lifetime, and I am disappointed in our government. Imagine if this thing goes back for a re-trial? How many more millions of our hard-earned tax dollars are going to be spent on this travesty?
How many years did we have to wait for Charles Campbell to be executed? Please, I pray to God that this isn’t a repeat of that. President Bush needs to stop worrying about being fair to that maniac, and put his care and concern where it belongs.
