It used to be I would have thought the government was infringing on my rights with a law to allow drunk driving checkpoints. Now I see the necessity for them; we as a group of people are forcing the government to make these things necessary. Our disregard for human life has become a very difficult situation for our law enforcement officers to handle. For some reason or other we no longer care about anyone other than ourselves and we bring these kind of conditions on ourselves by this type of thinking.
We as a people ought to support this change. If it only saves one life it is well worth it. While we are at it, we need to change the law to allow anyone using their cell phone or texting while driving to be pulled over and cited as a primary offense. This is another law that needs to be changed to help our police to save lives. We need to step up and be counted as a people that care about others and not just ourselves. I know there are people out there who think their rights are at stake here, but I would rather be safe than dead!
