Guess what! The U.S. government is going to yet another meeting! Always so many meetings to attend in America. But this one is in London just before the G8 Summit, and it is on a subject dear to the hearts of all living things. Food! Yes, food! Hunger is still a death sentence for 2.5 million children a year-causing one third of all preventable deaths. Some 165 million survive but are developmentally changed. The U.S. can help with this problem. Less than 1 percent of our foreign development assistance funds nutrition programs. Now is the time for the U.S. government to demonstrate its leadership by pledging $1.35 billion over three years. Let’s try a little “soft power” for a change! Let’s feed people — not kill them!
