I am a lifelong resident of the city of Snohomish. I live on a modest fixed income. Snohomish already has some of the highest water/sewer rates in the nation, with plans to raise them even higher next January.
When I read the Nov. 3 article in The Herald regarding Judge David Hulbert’s decision that the city can’t collect Seattle-Snohomish Mill Co.’s $600,000 water bill, I became enraged. The mill illegally tapped into a fire hydrant, taking $300,000 worth of water over an eight-year period.
If I, as a resident, do not pay my water bill, the city will shut off my water in a matter of days. If the city does not appeal this decision, it should hire a new city attorney.
