Stonecipher’s plan will help area

I read with interest the Friday letter, “Stonecipher’s priorities off track.” I also was at that neighborhood meeting and I was pleased with Brenda Stonecipher’s idea of forcing slumlords to have their rental properties inspectected for code violations.

In my neighborhood of Pinehurst we have a 60 percent rental rate. I personally know two of these slumlords, and their only goal is to cram as many renters as possible into every rental unit to maximize their income. They have zero interest in either making any improvements on their property or in screening their potential renters for neighborhood compatibility. This is why we have so many drug houses here. The druggies need cheap housing so they can make and distribute their products.

I do not think she’s “out of touch” at all. I think she’s got a very sound plan to improve my neighborhood. I wish we had more council members like Brenda Stonecipher.
