I agree wholeheartedly with your editorial opinion that switching times back and forth is asinine (“Congress, let’s not do the time warp again. Ever,” The Herald, March 15) What is totally unnecessary is daylight saving time. We are humans and as such are flexible enough to adjust our openings and closings of our businesses and institutions to suit all the listed benefits of DST.
Like our other units of time, our day is related to the celestial event of the rotation of the earth in relation to the sun. This dictates that noon be approximately the highest point of the sun in each time zone. Even the TV networks have always scheduled programming to allow for earlier risers in Central and Mountain time zones. We each can adjust however we wish.
Congress will likely make DST all year the law of the land, but I’m glad I won’t be explaining the rationale to our progeny.
