I love Fred Meyer and do the major portion of my shopping there. I recently purchased Kroger brand garlic powder and later discovered it was a product of China. I had also purchased garlic powder at Bartell’s, and found the label to show it, too, was a product of China.
When I found garlic powder at the Marysville Dollar Tree for $1 and it’s a product of the United States (Chesapeake, Va.) I returned the two other purchases, explained why, and got my money back.
I found canned mushrooms at the Dollar Tree (10 oz), a product of the USA. Fred Meyer and Bartell’s have only China-labeled products on their shelves for this item.
Now, all this talk about creating jobs for our citizens, stimulating our economy, buying locally, creates confusion in my mind when I’m overwhelmed with all these products bearing labels with China as country of origin.
Question: If the Dollar Tree can sell products made in the USA and apparently make a “decent” profit, why can’t Kroger (Fred Meyer) and Bartell’s?
