Regarding Mike Benbow’s column “Stream proof of change at Wal-Mart.”
Wal-Mart’s in the news again, and this time we’re trying to make them out as “environmentalists?” You’ve got to be kidding! Let’s give credit where credit is due. Benbow says that Wal-Mart is “doing a good thing” by putting in a stream at the site, yet the same paragraph says the city required the stream as part of a permit condition. How does this classify as Wal-Mart “doing a good thing?” Shouldn’t the credit go to Everett for requiring this work? How about looking at other Wal-Mart construction and see if they are choosing to enhance the environment? I bet they aren’t. Don’t try to make Wal-Mart into something it is not. Wal-Mart continues to take business out of the country, pay measly wages and put small businesses out on the street. The stream is not proof of change at Wal-Mart.
