Two seemingly unrelated pieces in the Dec. 9 Herald struck me as kind of a perfect example of, if not cause and effect, the inter-relatedness of things.
First, the front page article on Edmonds’ streateries (“Are ‘streateries’ here to stay in Edmonds? Survey says yes,” The Herald, Dec. 9). I haven’t eaten in one (yet) but do not oppose them. They are neither gorgeous nor hideous. They are a temporary way of helping us get through the pandemic, which is not yet over and won’t be for a while. Someday they’ll be gone, but I hope we don’t raze them prematurely. (And could they not be repurposed when that time does come?)
Second, the letter to the editor regarding by Tom Burke’s excellent column about attitudes toward the unvaccinated, especially the last paragraph that covid can fix stupid. So true. I have a lot of sympathy for the truly medically compromised and/or legitimately ineligible, but the WSU coaches of the world and “the others” (especially conspiracists)? No, sorry.
Back to my point: The sooner the pandemic goes away, the faster the streateries will as well. Duh! Can we assume streatery-haters are all fully vaxxed? Somehow, I doubt it, but maybe I’m wrong. Hope so!
